MBA in Agri-Business Management in India: Rankings Entrance Exams and Placements
A complete guide to the eleven leading MBA in Agri-Business Management programmes and how to get into them
📅 Last Updated: August 26, 2026
Why an MBA in Agri-Business Management
Agriculture and allied sectors employ close to half of India's workforce, yet the management talent pipeline serving that economy is remarkably small. A handful of institutes graduate a few hundred specialised agribusiness managers each year, against a sector spanning agri-inputs, food processing, commodity trading, agri-fintech, rural distribution, cooperatives and a fast-growing agritech startup ecosystem. That scarcity is precisely what makes an MBA in Agri-Business Management worth considering.
An MBA in Agri-Business Management is not a lesser version of a general MBA. The core management curriculum is largely the same, but it is taught through the lens of agricultural value chains, commodity markets, rural consumer behaviour, agricultural policy and food supply networks. Graduates move into roles at ITC, Godrej Agrovet, Amul, PI Industries, Nestle, PepsiCo, Bayer, Syngenta, Mahindra Agri, Ninjacart, DeHaat and a widening set of consulting firms building agriculture practices.
The trade-off is worth understanding before you commit. Specialisation narrows your recruiter pool, and the average packages for an MBA in Agri-Business Management sit below those at comparable general MBA programmes at the same institutes. What an MBA in Agri-Business Management gives you instead is a distinctive profile in a sector with less competition, often at a substantially lower fee, and at institutions where a general MBA seat would demand a considerably higher entrance percentile.

How We Ranked the MBA in Agri-Business Management Programmes
The ordering above is by published average placement package, which is the single most comparable number available across ten institutions of very different types. It is a useful starting point and a poor finishing point, for three reasons worth stating plainly.
First, the reporting years differ. Some institutes publish audited figures within weeks of the placement season closing while others lag by a year or release nothing at all. Second, cohort sizes vary enormously, and an average drawn from forty students behaves very differently from one drawn from five hundred. Third, and most importantly, IIM Lucknow does not publish a separate figure for its agribusiness cohort at all.
Two programmes publish no verifiable placement average at all. PAU Ludhiana and GB Pant University are state agricultural universities whose management schools do not release audited placement reports in the format private B-schools use. We have marked both as unpublished rather than filling the gap with an estimate. Their value proposition is different in any case: very low fees, deep regional agricultural networks and strong pathways into agri-input companies, cooperatives and agricultural banking.

MBA in Agri-Business Management: Programme-by-Programme Guide
IIM Ahmedabad — MBA-FABM
CAT · Two years · Batch of roughly 45
The most prestigious agribusiness programme in the country and the oldest, run out of India's top-ranked business school. The batch is deliberately small, placements have been complete for several consecutive years, and the recruiter list blends agribusiness specialists with mainstream consulting. In the most recent cycle consulting made the largest number of offers, followed by agri-inputs and agri-tech, with Sahyadri Farms among the top recruiters alongside Accenture, EY, ITC, Godrej Agrovet, Amul and PI Industries.
The FABM route is often described as an easier door into IIM Ahmedabad than the flagship PGP. That is only partly true. The percentile requirement is lower, but the programme requires an agricultural or allied sciences background, which narrows the applicant pool rather than lowering the bar.
IIM Lucknow — PGP-ABM
CAT · Two years · Common placement with PGP
IIM Lucknow's agribusiness programme is now past its twentieth batch and shares its placement process, campus and much of its core curriculum with the flagship PGP. That integration is the programme's defining advantage: ABM students sit in the same placement pool as PGP students and access the same recruiters across consulting, FMCG, finance and general management.
It also means the widely quoted average package is a combined figure covering both cohorts and should not be read as an agribusiness-specific number. What can be said with confidence is that ABM students at IIM Lucknow have access to a recruiter set that no standalone agribusiness programme can match.
MANAGE Hyderabad — PGDM Agri-Business Management
CAT · Two years · Government institute · 120 seats
The National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management was set up in 1987 by the Ministry of Agriculture and is one of the strongest government-run options for an MBA in Agri-Business Management. Its most recent published placement report shows an average of ₹12.38 LPA against a highest package of ₹21 LPA, with 45 recruiters participating and a large share of them recruiting on campus for the first time.
Recruitment leans heavily toward agri-inputs, which accounted for close to half of all placements, followed by FMCG, with banking, commodity trading, retail and consultancy making up the balance. Recruiters have included Adani Wilmar, Bayer, ITC, Godrej, HDFC Bank, DeHaat and Vegrow. Eligibility requires a degree in agricultural sciences or an agriculture-related discipline, and selection runs on CAT scores followed by a group discussion, essay and personal interview.
SIBM Nagpur — MBA Food & Agri-Business Management
SNAP · Two years · 60+ percentile
The most accessible entry point among the well-placed programmes on this list. A 60 percentile SNAP score puts the programme within reach of candidates who would not be competitive for SIBM Pune or SCMHRD, while the placement average sits comfortably in the same band as CCS NIAM and SIIB Pune. For a candidate with a moderate SNAP score and genuine interest in the food and agri sector, this is frequently the best value on the table.
CCS NIAM Jaipur — PGDM Agri-Business Management
CAT or CMAT · Two years · Government institute
A national institute under the Ministry of Agriculture, focused specifically on agricultural marketing. Fees are strikingly low relative to the placement outcome, which gives CCS NIAM one of the strongest returns on investment in this entire list. Recruitment is weighted toward agri-inputs and government organisations, with meaningful representation from BFSI and a growing consulting share.
The institute also runs PGDM programmes in Sustainability Management and in Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Venture Development, each with its own eligibility conditions.
SIIB Pune — MBA Agri-Business
SNAP · Two years · 70+ percentile
Symbiosis Institute of International Business runs its agri-business programme alongside its better-known International Business and Energy MBAs, on a Pune campus with an established recruiter network. The percentile requirement sits above SIBM Nagpur and SIOM Nashik, and the Pune location is a genuine advantage for internships and industry interaction.
ICAR-NAARM Hyderabad — PGDM Agri-Business Management
CAT or CMAT · Two years · ICAR institute
Run by the National Academy of Agricultural Research Management under ICAR, this programme carries strong credibility within the agricultural research and policy ecosystem and made its NIRF debut in the 2025 rankings. The most recent batch of 62 students was placed across 22 organisations, several recruiting on campus for the first time. The two-month summer internship with agribusiness companies is a well-structured feature of the programme rather than a formality.
IMS BHU Varanasi — MBA Agribusiness
CUET-PG · Two years · Central university
The Institute of Management Studies at Banaras Hindu University publishes placement statistics for its agribusiness programme separately from its general MBA, which is more transparency than most universities on this list offer. Total fees are among the lowest of any programme here, which changes the return calculation considerably even at a lower average package. Banks and financial institutions are prominent among recruiters alongside agri companies.
Note that the programme runs from the Rajiv Gandhi South Campus at Mirzapur rather than the main BHU campus, which is worth factoring into your decision.
SIOM Nashik — MBA Agri-Operations Management
SNAP · Two years · 60+ percentile
Symbiosis Institute of Operations Management approaches the sector from an operations angle rather than a marketing one, which suits candidates drawn to supply chain, processing, logistics and production roles within the food and agriculture value chain. The operations framing is a real differentiator, and graduates often find themselves competing for a different set of roles than marketing-oriented agribusiness graduates.
PAU Ludhiana — MBA Agri-Business Management
MET-Agribusiness · Two years · State agricultural university
Punjab Agricultural University is among the most respected agricultural universities in the country, and its School of Business Studies sits inside that ecosystem. Admission is through PAU's own MET-Agribusiness entrance rather than a national exam, and eligibility is restricted to graduates in agricultural sciences or allied subjects including food technology, dairy technology, fisheries, forestry, agricultural engineering and veterinary sciences.
PAU does not publish audited placement averages in the format private B-schools use. What it offers instead is very low fees, an unmatched agricultural research environment in the Punjab agricultural belt, and established pathways into agri-input companies and agricultural banking.
GB Pant University — MBA Agribusiness Management
University entrance test · Two years · State agricultural university
Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology at Pantnagar was India's first agricultural university and retains considerable standing in the agricultural sciences. As with PAU, admission runs through the university's own entrance process and placement data is not published in an audited comparable format. The programme suits candidates from agricultural backgrounds seeking a low-cost, sector-embedded qualification rather than a corporate placement race.
How to Choose the Right MBA in Agri-Business Management
Check eligibility before you check rankings
Several of these programmes are closed to candidates without an agricultural or allied sciences degree. IIM Ahmedabad FABM, MANAGE Hyderabad, PAU Ludhiana, GB Pant and CCS NIAM all apply background restrictions of some kind. Confirm you qualify before investing months of preparation in an exam aimed at a programme you cannot enter. The Symbiosis programmes are generally more open on discipline, which makes them the realistic route for engineering and commerce graduates entering the sector.
Weigh fees against placement, not placement alone
A programme with an ₹8.7 LPA average and total fees near ₹2 lakh can produce a better financial outcome than one with an ₹12 LPA average and fees above ₹18 lakh. The government institutes and state agricultural universities on this list look considerably stronger on return than their placement averages alone suggest. Work out the actual payback period for each shortlisted programme rather than sorting by average package.
Match the programme to the role you want
Every MBA in Agri-Business Management on this list is different, and they are not interchangeable. CCS NIAM is oriented toward agricultural marketing, SIOM Nashik toward operations and supply chain, ICAR-NAARM toward the research and policy ecosystem, and the two IIMs toward general management roles that happen to sit in the agri sector. A candidate wanting consulting should be looking at a different shortlist than one wanting a role in cooperative or agri-input distribution.
Be realistic about the recruiter pool
Outside the two IIMs, the recruiter list at an MBA in Agri-Business Management is narrower than at general MBA programmes, and average packages reflect that. This is a considered trade for a distinctive profile in an under-served sector, and it should be made with open eyes rather than on the assumption that an MBA in Agri-Business Management is simply an easier route to the same outcome.
Applying Through CATThe route that opens the most programmes
CAT is the single most valuable exam on this list. One attempt puts five of the eleven MBA in Agri-Business Management programmes within reach — IIM Ahmedabad FABM, IIM Lucknow ABM, MANAGE Hyderabad, CCS NIAM and ICAR-NAARM. If you are serious about this sector and can only prepare properly for one entrance exam, CAT is the one to write.
The CAT score is only the entry ticket. Each institute sets its own percentile bar, its own selection weightings and its own eligibility conditions on top of it, and most run group discussions, written ability tests and personal interviews that carry substantial weight in the final call. MANAGE Hyderabad, the National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management, is the strongest government-run option among them and is covered in full in our dedicated admission guide.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which is the best MBA in Agri-Business Management in India?
IIM Ahmedabad's MBA-FABM leads on brand, placement average and recruiter quality, with a recent average of ₹21.64 LPA and full placement. IIM Lucknow's PGP-ABM follows, with the significant advantage of a shared placement process with the flagship PGP batch. MANAGE Hyderabad is the strongest government-run option at ₹12.38 LPA. Beyond these, the best MBA in Agri-Business Management for you depends more on your background, budget and target role than on any overall ranking.
Which exam do I need for an MBA in Agri-Business Management?
CAT opens the largest number of MBA in Agri-Business Management programmes: IIM Ahmedabad FABM, IIM Lucknow ABM, MANAGE Hyderabad, CCS NIAM and ICAR-NAARM. SNAP opens SIBM Nagpur, SIIB Pune and SIOM Nashik. CMAT is an alternative route to CCS NIAM and ICAR-NAARM. IMS BHU admits through CUET-PG, PAU Ludhiana through its own MET-Agribusiness test and GB Pant through a university entrance process.
Can a non-agriculture graduate apply?
It depends on the programme. IIM Ahmedabad FABM, MANAGE Hyderabad, PAU Ludhiana, GB Pant and CCS NIAM apply background restrictions requiring an agricultural or allied sciences degree. The Symbiosis programmes at SIBM Nagpur, SIIB Pune and SIOM Nashik are generally more open on discipline. Always confirm current eligibility on the official admission page before preparing.
What is the lowest entrance score that gets me an MBA in Agri-Business Management?
Among the well-placed programmes, SIBM Nagpur FABM and SIOM Nashik have historically shortlisted at around 60 percentile in SNAP, which makes them the most accessible strong options. SIIB Pune sits at around 70 percentile. The IIM programmes require substantially higher CAT percentiles.
Is an MBA in Agri-Business Management worth it compared to a general MBA?
It depends on what you want. Average packages for an MBA in Agri-Business Management generally sit below comparable general MBA programmes, and the recruiter pool is narrower. In exchange you get a distinctive profile in an under-served sector, often at lower fees and lower entrance percentiles at institutions where a general MBA seat would be out of reach. For someone committed to the agriculture and food economy it is a strong trade; for someone using it purely as an easier route into a big-brand institute it frequently disappoints.
What roles do MBA in Agri-Business Management graduates get?
Common destinations include agri-input and agrochemical companies, food processing and FMCG, commodity trading, agricultural banking and rural finance, cooperatives, agri-tech and agri-fintech startups, and consulting firms with agriculture practices. Recent recruiters across these programmes include ITC, Godrej Agrovet, Amul, Nestle, PepsiCo, PI Industries, Accenture, EY, HDFC Bank and Mother Dairy.
Why does IIM Lucknow show a much higher average than IIM Ahmedabad FABM?
Because it is not a like-for-like figure. IIM Lucknow runs a common placement process for its PGP and PGP-ABM batches and publishes one combined average dominated by the much larger general PGP cohort. IIM Ahmedabad publishes a separate, audited FABM-only figure. The IIM Ahmedabad number is the more accurate representation of agribusiness-specific outcomes.
Which MBA in Agri-Business Management offers the best return on investment?
The government institutes and central university programmes, on the numbers available. CCS NIAM and IMS BHU both combine low total fees with respectable placement averages, producing shorter payback periods than several higher-ranked private options. PAU Ludhiana and GB Pant have even lower fees but publish no audited placement data, so their return cannot be calculated with confidence.
Reader Questions
Placement figures are drawn from the most recent institute placement reports and reputable secondary sources available at the time of writing, and reporting years differ between institutions. IIM Lucknow's figure is a combined PGP and PGP-ABM average, not an agribusiness-specific number. PAU Ludhiana and GB Pant University do not publish audited placement averages. Entrance exam requirements and eligibility conditions are revised periodically — always confirm current details on the official institute website before applying.
