IMS BHU (formerly FMS BHU), established in 1968, is the management institute of Banaras Hindu University — a premier Central University. Eligibility for IMS BHU MBA Agribusiness Admission 2026

Degree: A Bachelor's (or PG) degree with at least 50% marks in B.Sc. Agriculture or allied fields, Home Science, or B.Sc. with Botany/Zoology/Biotech/Biochemistry, or B.Voc (Food Processing & Management).
Marks: Minimum 50% aggregate; SC/ST candidates need only pass the qualifying exam.
Entrance test: A valid CAT score is required for the IMS BHU (main campus) MBA Agribusiness programme.
Final-year students: Eligible to apply, subject to completion.
Seats: Around 46–59 seats, with 15% reserved for international students.

This page covers the CAT-based MBA Agribusiness at IMS BHU (main campus, Varanasi). BHU also runs a separate MBA (Food & Agri-Business Management) at RGSC Barkachha, Mirzapur, which is admitted through BHU-PET, not CAT. Make sure you are applying to the right one.

The MBA Agribusiness total fee is around ₹2.2–2.4 lakh for the two years — one of the most affordable agribusiness MBAs in India, giving an outstanding fee-to-package ratio. Confirm current figures from the official prospectus.

IMS BHU MBA Agribusiness Selection Criteria 2026

IMS BHU MBA Agribusiness admission is CAT-based and runs on these stages:

Stage 1 — CAT shortlisting: A valid CAT score is the entry filter; candidates apply separately on the BHU MBA admission portal.
Stage 2 — Group Discussion (GD): Assesses reasoning, awareness and communication.
Stage 3 — Personal Interview (PI): Final assessment of fit and aptitude for agribusiness.

The final merit combines the CAT score (with significant weightage), academic record, and GD-PI performance.

BHU releases cut-offs after the CAT result. For MBA Agribusiness the overall CAT shortlisting bar has been reported around 85 percentile for the General category — accessible relative to the IIMs. Reserved categories get the usual relaxations. IMS BHU publishes separate placement figures for MBA Agribusiness. In 2025, the MBA-AB batch saw 56 students placed through 34 companies, with a highest package of ₹16 LPA, an average of ₹8.7 LPA and a median of ₹8.1 LPA. Most students (around 58%) joined as Management Trainees, with others as Deputy Managers, Sales Officers and QC Executives across agribusiness and agri-input sectors.

Recruiters & roles

MBA Agribusiness graduates are placed across agribusiness, agri-input, FMCG and consulting firms, with 34 companies participating in the 2025 drive. The wider IMS BHU recruiter pool includes ICICI Bank, Infosys, Wipro, IBM, TCS, Accenture, EY, KPMG, Deloitte, Nestlé, Amazon, Cognizant and Axis Bank, alongside agri-sector and FMCG recruiters. Around 38% of MBA-AB offers were in consulting roles.

The Programme

A two-year, full-time MBA in Agribusiness at the Institute of Management Studies, BHU, blending a management core — marketing, finance, HR, operations, strategy — with agribusiness-specific subjects such as agri supply-chain management, commodity markets, rural marketing, food-processing technology and agri-finance.

Backed by BHU's legacy as a premier Central University and a 1,300-acre campus, the programme offers strong academics, an "Earn While Learn" scheme, summer internships and industry exposure, at a fraction of the cost of private agribusiness MBAs.

As someone who was entirely new to this entire process, I was fortunate to have had such wonderful mentors at Gradsquare who guided me through each and every step of the way.
