The CAT (Common Admission Test) is a computer-based exam used for admission to Indian Institute of Management (IIMs) and other prestigious business schools across India, including the XLRI, FMS and SP Jain. The CAT is known for its unpredictable difficulty level and dynamic sectional patterns, making it a highly competitive and challenging test. The CAT exam comprises three key sections: Quantitative Ability (QA), Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC), and Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR). The DILR and QA sections have 22 questions whereas the VARC section has 24 questions. The maximum marks for the CAT exam is 204, with individual percentile rankings provided for each section and the total score.

CAT results are typically released a few weeks after the exam date. Candidates can download their scorecards from the official IIM CAT website. The scorecard includes overall and sectional scaled scores along with percentile rankings, which are crucial in determining eligibility for interviews and shortlisting by IIMs and other top B-schools. CAT scores remain valid for one year and are accepted by numerous prestigious MBA programs across India.
