All you need to know about the Charpak Scholarship
The Charpak scholarship is for one to two years of Master’s degree studies in France (September to June, 10 months per academic year) in any stream or topic of study.

Benefits of Charpak Scholarship
- Monthly living stipend of 700 euros
- Waiver of up to 5000 euros in tuition fees
- Assistance in locating inexpensive student housing (priority access to CROUS residences, subject to availability)
- Waiver of student visa and Etudes en France fees
Eligibility for Indian Citizens
The applicant must be:
- An Indian national with a permanent address in India
- At least 30 years old at the time of application
- Be a student enrolled at an Indian institution of higher learning or a young professional employed for a max of 3 years at the time of application
- The course has to be held in France.
- If you spend one semester or more studying in another nation, you will not be eligible for a scholarship during that time.
- Non-scholarship holders pursuing M1 in France are ineligible to apply for the scholarship
- Charpak scholarship holders who are currently completing their M1 in France will be exempt. They can reapply for financing for a second year to finish their M2. At the M2 level, the scholarship does not automatically renew. Academic achievement at the M1 level and a new statement of intent will be required for acceptance.
Charpak Scholarship Selection Procedure
Your application will be judged on its academic merits as well as the consistency and quality of your statement of intent. The scholarship has no CGPA or percentage cut-off. It will be advantageous to have some knowledge of French, but it is not required. A collaboration between your current Indian institution and your potential French institution will be beneficial as well.
Please note that if your application is rejected, you will not be given a reason. Candidates whose applications are incomplete are not required to get a response from the French Embassy. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Charpak Scholarship Online Application Procedure
Students must submit their application and scans of the following papers to the online scholarship site http://ifi.scholarship.ifindia.in/.
- Passport size photograph
- Scanned copy of your passport's first page with photo an expiry date
- An updated Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- A scanned copy of your French higher education institution's admission/acceptance letter
- Attested Higher Secondary School Mark Sheets, Bachelor's and Master's degree certificates
- If French was your second language, a language certificate (DELF/DALF or from any recognized university, or an Xth grade mark sheet) is required.
- XII grade report and diploma/passing certificate
- University mark sheet and degree (Bachelor's degree and mark sheet, as well as your M1 mark sheet for those applying for M2)
- University Letter of Recommendation (not mandatory)
Note: All of the aforementioned documents must be in the following formats: word, pdf, or jpg (rtf, odt, txt, msg documents, zip folders, or scans of social media are NOT acceptable).
Applications that do not include all of the essential papers or are incomplete will be rejected.
Please keep in mind that your statement of goal is an expression of your ideas. It should explain why you chose the French university to which you applied or were accepted, as well as how the exchange program would benefit your future studies or career launch. Explain why you think you’d be a good fit for the scholarship. Each question in your statement of purpose should be answered in no more than 250 words.
