Today we are going to have a quick look at the IIM Rohtak’s IPMAT 2021 paper. As part of our analysis, we will be covering the following points

Before we jump in, there are a few key points to keep in mind while analysing the IIM Rohtak IPMAT 2021 paper
- The number of test takers for the IPMAT Rohtak paper this year was almost three times of the number of test takers in 2019.
- 2019 was the first year when IPMAT Rohtak examination was conducted for IIM Rohtak IPM intake and the number of people who wrote the exam in 2019 was less than 6000. So from there, the count has gone up 3x for this year’s exam which means the IIM Rohtak IPM program has become quite popular in these two years.
- Last year the paper was not up to the mark because there were a lot of complaints from students about the kind of paper that was set. There seemed to be a certain lack of seriousness but this year everything went very smoothly. This sets the expectation that the future IPMAT exams will also be conducted without any hitches.
- Another very important thing to be kept in mind is that the 10th and 12th marks are also considered for an interview shortlist in IIM Rohtak IPM program; hence we will be looking at a safe score rather than just a pure cut-off.

Unlike the IPMAT IIM Indore paper which was typically on the tougher side this time, the IIM Rohtak IPMAT paper was easy to moderate in terms of the difficulty. If you look at the three sections, there was no sectional timing and there isn’t going to be any sectional cut off. So, the goal should have been to maximize the score as high as possible, out of the total 480 marks on offer. The maths section was easy to moderate because not everybody is from a math background and so some people would have found it tough to complete the paper. The verbal ability paper was easy to moderate. For somebody who had a reading habit and had been working on the vocabulary this paper would have been a cakewalk for them. The logical reasoning part was easy but you still needed to manage your time across the three sections. Find your favorites, choose the questions and manage your time – if you would have done that, then you would have aced it. The paper was about strategizing well, optimizing your time across your favourite section, knowing where and how to spend your time in different sections in order to maximise your score. If you have done that, then you are definitely going to get a call from IIM Rohtak for the interview process.
IPMAT IIM Rohtak 2021 Paper Analysis
Let’s look at each section and understand what was there in each section. So, we spoke to a lot of students and tried to understand the question distribution. We cannot get the exact idea but can throw a nice understanding of how the paper was.
In the quantitative ability section, you can see questions from percentages, profit, and loss, simple interest, compound interest, ratio proportions, average, mixtures and solutions, time, speed & distance, time & work, ages, etc. So you can see that it was an arithmetic heavy paper as expected with approx. 50% questions from the arithmetic section. And, these were all easy questions, not moderate. Higher maths was not there in this exam as expected but then we had the height & distance questions which came from trigonometry (only 1) or else if you call probability, permutation & combination higher maths, then there were another five questions from there. Overall anybody who would have a good grasp on maths and whose favourite topic is maths, with 40 minutes in hand easily 20- 25 questions could have been done in this paper. When I say ‘easily’, I mean for those people who have practiced well and who have been gunning to crack this paper, 25 questions were easily doable in this particular section by spending a slightly more time by quickly finishing off your English paper.
In the logical reasoning section, we had 4-5 syllogism questions, 4-5 data sufficiency, and 9-12 critical reasoning questions (strengthening & weakening, statement assumptions, statement conclusions), etc. So, almost half of the logical reasoning questions were from these areas. The rest of the questions in this paper were around coding-decoding, directions, linear arrangement, inequalities and analogy, blood relations, these were all questions which were very easy and anybody who would have practiced a lot in the last one-year gunning for this paper, would have been easily able to do 30 questions in the given time of 40 minutes. Even if you would have got 2- 3 questions wrong, you would have landed with 25 questions correct, which is ~100 marks and that would have been a good score to look forward to when you would have finished this paper. So, overall logical reasoning was towards the easier side.
A lot of people felt that the English section was easy while a lot of them felt it was not that easy so it depends upon how good your English is. But when I spoke to people who have a good reading habit, a good understanding of vocabulary and English grammar, I get the sense that anybody good at this paper could have finished this paper in about 30 min easily.
In a vocabulary-heavy paper, we had about 4 questions from synonyms and antonyms, 4 from text completion, plus 12 reading comprehension questions; that’s about 50% of the paper. It was not a tough paper and for anybody who had practiced well, you could have done all the questions in 30 minutes and gotten at least 60% correct.
Cut-offs are not going to be easy this time because paper looks easy and a lot of people would have cracked the questions. Anybody who would have done 25-25-25 in each of the sections correctly would have got 75 questions right which means that this itself would have taken the score to 300+ marks. So considering the factors such as the difficulty level of the paper, higher number of people who wrote the exam this year and the familiarity with the examination pattern, the cut-off is expected to be higher this year than what it was in 2019.

The result is expected to come out before the mid of next month.
So, what next?
We don’t know much about JIPMAT because the dates have not been declared but one thing is for sure if you are looking forward to cracking the interview stage, then start your preparations for the interview. You must have got an understanding of how you have done the paper, you will get a call or not and if you have even a slight chance of getting into an interview room, then start preparing now !
