Some cross questions
All the best. You may leave!
WAT topic(15mins)(can’t remember the exact words) : Fetching all the Golden eggs at one go doesn’t kill the goose everytime
I didn’t even know about this goose story! But wrote something which fortunately was relevant according to the other candidates
GD was on the very same topic(20mins). Except 1 person(who was constantly cutting and disagreeing with everyone), a nice discussion with various examples and discussion on it
My PI Was the first of the slot so my entire process finished within an hour. Interview lasted around 25 minutes
3 panelists, all male(P1- friendly, encouraging the answers and interacting in a proper manner, P2 was at times skeptical and at times friendly, P3 was a very senior person, probably takes organisational behaviour subject at XL, wasn’t paying any attention and not asking much questions, mainly busy with his phone)
Since I mentioned about AI in the GD, my first question was on what is AI, how it works, its technicalities. After giving a brief description and its future uses I had to tell them that I did not get an opportunity to learn AI since it wasn’t a part of my curriculum.
What is the difference between ethernet cable and fibre optics? 3 more questions on the topic. Couldn’t answer 1.
Why accidents take place? Where do they maximum take place? What has govt done about it? Explain the accidents using newton’s 1st law of motion. How is a policy designed? How will AI help in this? What is SMART about smart cities(wasn’t satisfied much with my answer, same goes for them)?
Ethical dilemma you faced(wasn’t agreeing to my answer, I stood my ground and gave more insights to the scenario, still wasn’t happy with my response)
Panelist 3 suddenly asks what is the difference between ethics and morality(kind of satisfied with my answer)
Your role model
Why are you not working right now? What are your CAT and XAT percentiles? Why less in xat? Did your percentage improve or your percentile? What did coaching institute tell you about these interviews? Your answers look like they are rehearsed(by that point I was maintaining a calm face and composure but from the inside I felt pretty weird about the entire interview)
The thing is they were cutting their own questions, they didn’t even give me time to answer – I had to request to them at times to give me a second to think about the answers
Then they handed me my folder and didn’t say clearly to leave. I asked them am I done for they day? P3 is like you want to answer more questions? I kinda smiled and told them it’s upto them, I am ready
Then another round of 5 mins(and this time I was standing!). Took a toffee and went out. At the end they were very jolly and laughing at other things. I was so caught up in the things that I took their pen with me, had to enter again and give it back to them
Opinion: could have been better, they didn’t give an opportunity to direct the interview, throwing questions like anything, not much chance of conversion but a good experience definitely 🙂

GD/WAT : Electronic money is better for the economy than paper based money
P1 : 40-ish guy
P2 : 30-ish guy with a very serious face
P3 : 40-ish guy ; severely disinterested
P1: So you are a Mechanical engineer?
AN : Clarified
P1: Tell us a bit about your job
AN : Answered
P1 : So you did the technical feasibility or the financial part?
AN : Both
P1 : Run me through your financial analysis
AN : Told
P1 : Are you sure you are not missing something?
AN : Told one more miscellaneous point. I think I have covered everything else.
P1 : Hmmm, I’m done.
P3 : So Abhishek, why did you speak lesser than the rest in the GD?
AN : Sir, I only spoke when I felt that I had a compelling point to make. Besides, the some of the other candidates had some experience relevant to the topic. I wanted to gather the most of their experience for a better discussion
P3 : Okay. Compare JSW and Tata Steel
AN : Said a few points
P3 : (Not convinced) But that advantage is negated by the recent acquisition, right?
AN : Told how simply acquiring the asset does not amount to technology transfer
P3 : But, that’s your nearest competitor. SAIL is not performing now. So you should have better points. Do ask this to yourself later.
P2 : Okay, Abhishek. Tell me 3 skills which you developed in the last 6 months in your job.
AN : Told about negotiation skills, the rest, he did not buy as valuable skills
P2 : What kind of negotiation? Give me an instance.
AN : Answered
P2 : That is just basic. Tell me something better.
AN : Again said something
P2 : Leave it. How will you negotiate price?
AN : Told a few pointers.
P2 : I can practically do the same things while buying vegetables. Tell something we don’t know
AN : Couldn’t answer convincingly.
All three : Okay, we are done!
They literally countered every single answer I said. Also the GD remark was a letdown. Although other candidates had similar experience in the interview, I think it was a below average performance!
