Raman Charpak Fellowship
The Indo – French Centre for Promotion of Advanced Research (IFCPAR / CEFIPRA) offers the Raman Charpak Fellowship for PhD and Masters students of India and France in any stream or topic of study. This is given in honour of Professor C.V. Raman, Indian Nobel Laureate, and Professor Georges Charpak, French Nobel Laureate.
The duration of the fellowship is for two to six months. It aims to improve the doctoral skills of Indian and French candidate students who are given research opportunities in universities or research and development institutions in France or India, respectively.
Benefits of Raman Charpak Fellowship
- Fellows of India: A monthly stipend of 1500 euros is provided
- Fellows of France: INR 40,000 per month for daily expenses, local travel, etc. plus accommodation charges not exceeding INR 45,000 per month is provided
- Waiver of tuition fees up to 5000 euros
- Assistance in locating inexpensive student housing
- Insurance coverage (travel & health) wherever is required
- Etudes en France and student visa fee waiver
- One round-trip flight in economy class.

Eligibility for Indian Citizens
- The applicant must be an Indian citizen who residing in India
- Applicants from France must be residing in France and have registered for a Ph.D./ Master’s degree in a recognized university or research institution in France
- The applicant must be under the age of 30 years as of 1st April of the application year
- The applicant must be a student presently enrolled/who has studied at an Indian institution of higher learning, or a young professional employed for a maximum of three years at the time of application
- It is required that the course be held in France. If you spend one semester or more studying in another nation, you will not be eligible for a scholarship during that time.
- Charpak scholarship holders who are currently completing their M1 in France will be granted an exception. They can reapply for financing for a second year to finish their M2. At the M2 level, the scholarship does not automatically renew. Academic achievement at the M1 level and a new statement of intent will be required for acceptance. The scholarship is not available to non-scholarship holders who are currently pursuing M1 in France

Interested candidates should visit the official website to apply for the Raman Charpak Fellowship. The following are the prerequisites for the Raman Charpak Fellowship:
- A CV (up to three pages) including a recent image, an overview of accomplishments, and research interests a bibliography of relevant publications
- A letter of recommendation (LOR) and agreement from the requested fellowship supervisor (Foreign Research Institute)
- Letters of experience or publications/citations from research work done
- No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Head of the Institute
- Scanned copy of highest degree certificate
- Passport scanned copy (both front and back)
- A Recent photograph
- Ph.D. Students: Summary or Synopsis of Ph.D. thesis (up to 3 pages only)
- Ph.D. Students: Scanned copy of Ph.D. registration letter
- Ph.D. Students: A letter of recommendation from the Ph.D. supervisor in his or her native lab
Fellowship Selection Procedure
Your application to Raman Charpak Fellowship will be judged on its academic merits as well as the consistency and quality of your statement of intent. The scholarship has no CGPA or percentage cut-off. It will be advantageous to have some knowledge of French, but it is not required. If your current Indian institution has an association with the potential French institution that you are applying for, then it would be beneficial for your application. Students must submit their application and scans of the following papers to the online scholarship site www.cefipra.org.
The application for the Raman Charpak Fellowship starts in April/May and the deadline for submission for Indian & French Phd. students is June/July. The results are announced by the end of September and the fellowship starts by mid-October.
