Best Program to Convert Your IIM Call
Mock Interviews | WAT Feedback | Knowledge Sessions
Cracking CAT and getting shortlisted for the WAT–PI rounds of the IIMs is a major milestone, but it’s only half the journey. The interview panel evaluates your personality, academic knowledge, clarity of thought, confidence, and awareness of the world around you.
To truly stand out, you need structured, strategic preparation. GradSquare’s IIM WAT PI Preparation Program is built to give you that edge. With personalized mentoring, rigorous mock interviews, WAT training, and proven frameworks, we help you clearly articulate your ideas and present your best self. With a strong track record and a student-first approach, our program equips you with the confidence and competence needed to convert your IIM call. Don’t leave your future to chance—prepare with the best.

Advantage of GradSquare's IIM WAT PI Preparation

IIM Mock Interviews
At GradSquare, your IIM mock interview preparation is personally guided by Ajay Zener, IIM Ahmedabad alumnus and one of India’s most respected MBA mentors. Every student receives structured, end-to-end handholding throughout the preparation journey.
Your training begins with a clear briefing on what to prepare for the interview and how to prepare it. Once your answers are ready, Ajay or the mentor panel will conduct your first IIM mock interview, evaluating your content, clarity, confidence and interview readiness. Each subsequent IIM mock interview is designed to close the gaps identified earlier, ensuring improvement in every round. Sessions systematically cover the full spectrum of IIM interview themes: self-awareness, social awareness, work experience, academics, business understanding and current affairs.
Mock interviews typically run for 15–30 minutes, depending on the institutes you are targeting, and every session is followed by actionable feedback that tells you exactly what to fix and how to improve.
This is a rigorous, outcome-focused interview training process built to help you perform with clarity, confidence and credibility in the actual IIM panel.

IIM AWT-WAT Preparation
All IIM WAT/AWT sessions at GradSquare are personally conducted by Varun Krishnan, Founder of GradSquare and one of India’s leading WAT/AWT trainers. As part of your structured preparation, you will attend a dedicated session every week, each designed to sharpen your thinking, clarity of writing, and argumentation.
We believe the only way to excel in the IIM WAT/AWT is through consistent writing practice paired with expert feedback. Regular practice builds speed and structure, while mentor evaluation highlights gaps in logic, coherence and expression so you improve quickly and measurably.
Topics covered include current affairs, social issues, business themes, ethical dilemmas and abstract ideas, mirroring top B-school expectations. Every session gives you a clear writing framework, followed by an assignment. Once you submit it, you receive personalized, actionable feedback from Varun on structure, content and clarity.
Since WAT/AWT carries 10–20% weightage in the final IIM selection, performing well is crucial. Our weekly, feedback-driven approach ensures your writing becomes crisp, logical and selection-ready, giving you a strong competitive edge.

IIM Academic Interviews
GradSquare does not conduct generic IIM mock interviews like most coaching centers. Our IIM mock interviews are rigorous, technical and designed with one objective, identifying and eliminating your gaps. These interviews are challenging, reflecting the depth and unpredictability of real IIM panels.
Our mentors go deep into your academic background, whether it is Mechanical, Computer Science, Commerce, Psychology, Economics, Mathematics, Life Sciences, Agriculture or any other discipline. You are tested on fundamentals, conceptual clarity, application-based thinking and your ability to handle pressure.
Every interview is also data and statistics driven, aligned with the current business, policy, and economic developments. This ensures your responses are relevant and analytically strong.
What sets us apart is that each mock interview is taken by mentors who have extensive experience interviewing students from your specific academic domain. They know where students typically struggle, and they help you pinpoint your weak areas. By the time you face the actual IIM panel, you are equipped to handle depth, pressure, unpredictability and cross-questioning with confidence.
When Should You Start Your IIM WAT PI Preparation?
You should begin your IIM WAT–PI preparation immediately after the CAT response sheet is released in December. This is the stage where you can reliably estimate your percentile and make an informed decision on your chances.
Candidates from the General category often receive interview calls at percentiles as low as 92, depending on academic scores (X, XII, Graduation) and work experience. EWS candidates may be shortlisted at around 85 percentile, NC-OBC candidates at 75 percentile, and SC candidates even at 50 percentiles, based on overall profile strength. Once you check your estimated percentile using your response sheet, you will clearly know whether you stand a realistic chance of getting an IIM call. If you do—starting early is a strategic advantage.
The interview window is extremely tight. In 2024, the first IIM interviews (IIM Lucknow and IIM Rohtak) began as early as 10th January. This means that students who start in early December get only 30 days to prepare, while late starters get even less. Beginning your WAT–PI preparation early ensures you build depth, confidence and clarity, giving you a much stronger edge when the interview season begins.

How are IIM WAT PI Conducted?
The older IIMs and some of the new IIMs conduct their WAT–PI processes independently, ensuring complete control over selection standards and evaluation methods. In contrast, five of the newer IIMs follow the Common Admission Process (CAP), a coordinated WAT–PI round conducted jointly to streamline admissions.
Another group of four newer IIMs participates in the Joint Admission Process (JAP), which also includes a combined WAT–PI evaluation. Additionally, IIM Bodhgaya and IIM Jammu operate an additional Supplementary Admission Process (SAP) to assess candidates beyond the CAP round, giving them multiple pathways to shortlist high-potential students.

How Does IIM Conduct the WAT-PI Process?
IIM Personal Interview (PI)
The Personal Interview (PI) process at the IIMs differs significantly across institutes and programs, and understanding these nuances is crucial for effective preparation. Interviews for the newer IIMs under CAP and JAP typically last 10–15 minutes, while the older IIMs—IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta, and Lucknow—often conduct more intensive interviews of 25–30 minutes.
The discussion generally revolves around your academic foundations, clarity of goals, self-awareness, current affairs, and social awareness. Panels are usually composed of 2–3 experienced IIM professors, and some institutes—such as IIM Mumbai—also include alumni interviewers to bring additional perspectives.
Most interviews are conducted offline at designated centres across India, though a few specialised programs may opt for an online format.
Given the competitive nature of these interviews, strong preparation is essential. Final selection ratios are extremely tight—approximately 1:4 in the older IIMs and 1:6 in the newer IIMs. A well-prepared candidate stands out immediately, making the difference between a shortlist and a final admit.
IIM Written Ability Test (WAT)
The Written Ability Test (WAT) is conducted by most IIMs as a key component of the final selection process, with the exception of a few institutes. IIM Ahmedabad conducts the AWT (Analytical Writing Test) instead of the traditional WAT.
The WAT typically lasts 15–25 minutes, during which you are given a topic and expected to produce a clear, structured and well-reasoned response within the time limit. WAT topics commonly cover current affairs, social issues, business news, public policy and broader social awareness themes, and are often argumentative in nature. Your writing is evaluated on clarity of thought, depth of knowledge, coherence, structure, and quality of analysis. The WAT carries 10–20% weightage in the final merit list.
The AWT at IIM Ahmedabad is fundamentally different. Instead of an open-topic essay, you are presented with a short case, scenario or situation, followed by pointed analytical questions. These questions test your ability to identify assumptions, draw logical inferences, critique arguments, and think critically under time pressure.
Mastering the WAT/AWT is crucial, as it demonstrates your analytical ability, communication skills, and depth of understanding.
IIM WAT PI Preparation Timeline
The CAT 2025 scorecard is expected to be released between late December 2025 and early January 2026. Historically, CAT results have been announced as early as 22 December and never later than 10 January. The scorecard provides sectional and overall scaled scores along with percentile rankings, critical inputs used by the IIMs and top B-schools for shortlisting. Within 2–3 days of the result announcement, IIM interview shortlists begin to roll out, with the older IIMs typically releasing their lists first. Along with the shortlist, you will receive institute-specific forms to fill, often requiring essays or SOPs. For example, IIM Bangalore asks for a 600-word SOP, and other IIMs may require multiple short essays.
Interview rounds begin almost immediately. In recent years, IIM Rohtak and IIM Lucknow started interviews as early as 10 January, leaving candidates very little time to prepare. This is why starting your WAT–PI preparation early, ideally even before the results are declared, is a strategic advantage that ensures you enter January’s interview season fully prepared and confident. The entire IIM interview process typically concludes by mid-April, and final admission offers start rolling out from April 15 onwards. Most IIM academic sessions commence in June or July, giving selected candidates ample time to plan.
This streamlined cycle, from CAT result to shortlist to interview to final admission, offers aspirants a clear roadmap. And those who start preparing early enjoy a decisive edge in the highly competitive WAT–PI process.

Happy to share that I had a wonderful time at Gradsquare preparing for the CAT exam and GDPI process. As someone who was entirely new to this entire process, I was fortunate to have had such wonderful mentors at Gradsquare who guided me through each and every step of the way. Mentors at Gradsquare helped me identify my weaknesses and helped me find my own strategy that was best suited for my strengths. What stood out for me was Gradsquare's approach which was different from the conventional approach of other coaching centres of using long hours to conduct classes, which in my opinion really doesn't help much, however they never hesitated to take long hours to clear our doubts which according to me was the key instrument in helping me succeed. Also, the Gradsquare portal is super easy to handle and it really makes your prep easy to assess and follow. I wholeheartedly endorse Gradsquare for anyone who is willing to give your best shot at converting a top B-School.Posted on Revati Dw29 May 2024Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
