The SNAP Exam

SNAP (Symbiosis National Aptitude Test) is a national-level MBA entrance examination conducted by Symbiosis International (Deemed University), one of India's leading private universities known for its industry-oriented management education. SIU has built its reputation through a network of top-tier business schools such as SIBM Pune, SCMHRD, SIIB, SIBM Bengaluru and others, each offering specialised, practice-driven postgraduate management programmes.

SNAP is known for its speed-based format, evaluating quick decision-making, accuracy and time management — the skills that matter in real business environments. The test is conducted in three attempts (Test 1, Test 2, Test 3) and candidates may take one, two or all three; the best score is considered for admission, with no normalisation across sessions.

The SNAP score alone is not sufficient for final admission. After results, each institute shortlists candidates on its own criteria. Shortlisted aspirants then go through the GE-PI-WAT process (Group Exercise, Personal Interview, Written Ability Test), after which the final merit list is prepared.

SNAP 2026 is a 60-minute computer-based test with 60 objective questions across four sections. Each correct answer carries 1 mark and each wrong answer attracts 25% negative marking, so a wrong response costs 0.25. There is no sectional time limit and candidates may attempt the sections in any order.

The New Ethics, Morality and Values Section

The addition of a dedicated Ethics, Morality and Values section is the single most consequential change to SNAP in recent years. Ten questions carry ten marks — a sixth of the paper — and every mark counts the same as a mark in Quant or Reasoning.

SIU has not published a detailed syllabus for the section, so nobody can tell you with certainty what the questions will look like until Test 1 on 13 December. What we can say is that sections of this kind, when they appear in Indian management and civil-services testing, typically present short situational dilemmas and ask which response is most appropriate — workplace integrity, conflicts of interest, fairness, honesty in reporting, responsibility toward stakeholders. They tend to reward judgement rather than memorised theory.

What Changed from Last Year

The paper length and duration are unchanged, but the weight has been redistributed. General English loses a third of its questions and Analytical & Logical Reasoning loses a fifth, with those ten questions going to the new section.

The practical effect is a shift in where marks are won. Reasoning was the biggest section and the biggest differentiator; it is now level with Quant at 20 questions. Candidates who built their entire strategy around clearing a large reasoning block will need to rebalance, and the traditional advice to treat General English as the easy 15-mark cushion no longer holds — it is a 10-mark cushion now.

SNAP 2026 Important Dates

Registration is open now and closes on 25 November 2026. Admit cards are released separately for each test date, and results are declared in January 2027.

Registration Fees & Eligibility

Two separate payments are required, and this trips up applicants every year: paying the SNAP test fee does not register you for any programme. You must additionally register and pay for each institute-programme combination you want to be considered for.

A graduate in any discipline from a recognised university with a minimum of 50% marks is eligible, relaxed to 45% for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates. Specialised programmes including Business Analytics, Infrastructure Development & Management and the dual-degree tracks carry additional criteria, so check the institute-specific eligibility before paying a programme fee you cannot use.

Section-wise Strategy for the New Pattern

General English — 10 questions

Historically SNAP's most scoring section, built on grammar, vocabulary, idioms, error spotting, parajumbles and fill-in-the-blanks rather than long reading passages. At 10 questions it is now a smaller cushion, but it remains the fastest section per mark. Target near-complete accuracy here in roughly 7 to 8 minutes and move on. Do not linger on a vocabulary item you do not know — the negative marking makes a guess on an unfamiliar word a poor trade.

Analytical & Logical Reasoning — 20 questions

Still the section that separates strong scores from average ones, covering critical reasoning, syllogisms, coding-decoding, series, arrangements, family trees, clocks, calendars and visual reasoning. SNAP's reasoning has always rewarded agility over depth. The discipline that matters is abandonment: identify the two or three questions with layered conditions and leave them. Around 18 to 20 minutes is a reasonable allocation.

Quantitative, DI & DS — 20 questions

Arithmetic-heavy, with algebra, mensuration, numbers, permutations and probability, logarithms, set theory and occasional trigonometry. SNAP favours concise computation over lengthy calculation. Note that Data Interpretation and Data Sufficiency are named in the section title but have appeared sparsely in recent papers, so prepare them without over-investing. Roughly 20 minutes.

Ethics, Morality and Values — 10 questions

Untested territory. Read each scenario carefully, since these questions usually hinge on a specific detail, and pick the response a reasonable professional would defend rather than the one that sounds most virtuous. Allocate the remaining time and, on the first attempt, accept that you are also gathering intelligence for Tests 2 and 3.

Use these to decide which programmes to register for — remember that each programme carries its own ₹1,000 fee, so a considered shortlist beats a scattergun one.

SIU lists 17 institutes and 29 M.B.A. programmes across Pune, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Nagpur, Nashik and NOIDA for the 2026 cycle, including newer options in Sports Management, Food Technology and several dual degrees with Durham, Aston and Macquarie.
