The MICAT Examination

📅 Last Updated: December 16, 2025, 8:11 AM

MICAT is an examination conducted by MICA (Mudra Institute of Communication, Ahmedabad). It’s an Indian B-school that has built its reputation as India’s premier institute for Strategic Marketing and Communications, combining rigorous management training with a strong creative and consumer-centric orientation. For MBA aspirants, its two flagship, AICTE-approved programmes – the PGDM and the iconic PGDM-C – offer distinct yet complementary routes into careers at the intersection of brand, business and technology.

Both PGDM and PGDM-C are full-time, two-year residential programmes with curricula that integrate strategic marketing, consumer behaviour, digital, design and data, continually updated to stay aligned with industry needs. Together, they position MICA as a unique choice for aspirants who want more than a generic MBA – a campus where business education is inseparable from creativity, brand thinking and cultural insight.

MICAT is conducted in two iterations (MICAT-1 and MICAT-2). Aspirants can choose to take either or both papers, and the best of their scores will be considered. Although this paper in itself is not enough to fulfil the admissions criteria to MICA. Candidates are required to take at least one among CAT, XAT and GMAT as well to be eligible for a shortlist to their phase-II GE-PI process.

MICAT 1 Analysis 2025

MICAT-1 was conducted on 6 December 2025. In this post, we present a comprehensive MICAT-1 2025-26 Exam Analysis, including the overall difficulty level and section-wise breakdown. MICAT-1 2025-26 was divided into 3 major sections: Psychometric Test, Descriptive Section (essays) and Aptitude Section, lasting for a total of 130 minutes.

The Psychometric Test consisted of 68 MCQs with varying number of options to be completed in 25 minutes. The Descriptive Section consisted of 4 essays with varying weightage (10+10+20+30) amounting cumulatively to 70 marks, that found an allocation of 25 minutes. The Aptitude Section consisting of 70 MCQs was further divided into 4 sub-sections: Convergent Divergent Thinking (C-D), Verbal Ability (VA), Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation (QA-DI) & General Awareness (GA). Each question in this section had 4-6 options with a marking scheme of +1/–0.25 for MCQs and +1/0 for TITA questions and the candidates had 80 minutes to attempt this section.

Apart from these sections, the paper also allocated an additional 3 minutes at the beginning of the paper for candidates to test out keyboard and mouse functionalities. There were some changes in the MICAT 2025 as compared to the previous editions.  Psychometric Test saw a major change with questions reducing from 120 to 68, also duration reducing from 30 minutes to 25 minutes. Another change was the introduction of TITA questions in the aptitude section. Also, critical reasoning questions which used to be a part of the verbal ability section was moved to convergent divergent thinking section.

This analysis offers an in-depth evaluation of the entire paper and is based on first-hand exam experience from GradSquare mentor Varun Krishnan.

MICAT-1 2025-26 Analysis

The MICAT-1 2025-26 examination began 9 AM. GradSquare founder, Varun Krishnan took the paper enabling a precise, ground-level assessment of the paper’s design and difficulty.

The MICAT 2025 edition had few changes as compared to the previous years, making it a bit easier. The introduction of TITA questions made the verbal ability section a bit more difficult as compared to the previous years, but still it was one of the easier sections in the aptitude section.

Overall difficulty was easier than the MICAT in 2024.

MICAT 1 Section-wise Analysis 2025

MICAT 1 Psychometric Test Analysis 2025

This section was pretty simple to navigate because the questions have no right or wrong answers. Time management was not an issue to worry about either even though 68 questions had to be answered in 25 minutes. In fact, the time constraint helps you give more instinctive answers which is the need of the section. The questions which revolved around character traits and how one would react to different situations, were designed to assess one’s personality and fit for MICA’s campus. Sometimes similar situations were repeated in the section to check consistency of response. A candidate who tries to present themselves as someone they are not might end up marking inconsistent responses and be disqualified. Hence, it is best to not overthink the questions and give honest answers.

This year the personality traits that were majorly tested through situation questions were Ability to go against the grain, one’s ability to take critical feedback, and openness to accepting difference of opinions. There is no sectional cut-off for the Psychometric section. It is a qualifying section. You need to qualify for the Psychometric test for the other sections to be evaluated.

MICAT 1 Descriptive Section Analysis 2025

Consisting of 4 essays to be written within a span of 25 mins, the descriptive section was truly a test of time management and typing speed.

The first three essays were designed to test critical thinking and the ability to take reason backed stances. The topic for these three essays was the same. In the first essay one had to write 5 points in favor of the topic, in the second, 5 points against the topic and in the third essay a personal stance on the topic had to be taken. The fourth essay, which had the maximum weightage, was a test of creative writing where one had to weave a story connecting four pictures shown in the prompt.

All essays had a text box with a 300-word limit. Cut, copy, paste functions were disabled and there were no spelling and grammar checks. To manage time, it’s ideal for students to spend up to 5 minutes each in the first 2 essays, 6 minutes for the third and 8 minutes for the fourth. Completing all the essays without too many typographical errors is important, so typing speed and accuracy becomes critical to this section.

This section will only be evaluated if you qualify in the Psychometric Test and clear the cut-off of the Aptitude Section.

MICAT 1 Aptitude Section Analysis 2025

This section consists of 70 questions (MCQ & TITA) having anywhere between 4-6 options spread across 4 sub-sections. Candidates were allowed to navigate between the sub-section, but each sub-section does have an individual sectional cut-off one has to achieve in order to qualify for a GE-PI call. So, balancing time across all 4 sub-sections is crucial.

Convergent Divergent Thinking

This sub-section has been a unique flavor of the MICAT over the years. It had questions testing critical reasoning, alpha-numerical and visual pattern recognition, verbal logic, analytical reasoning, blood relations, and word relations. It was a tough section and needed to be navigated quickly. It is recommended that students solve only those questions that they are confident of getting right and do not spend too much time figuring out solutions. This sub-section was easier than the previous years and the cut-off is expected to go up.

The cut-off for this section is expected to go around 6-7 marks.

Verbal Ability

This was the easiest among the four sub-sections and it was where candidates could maximize their attempts. Reading comprehensions, para completion and para summary questions were doable. The  parajumbles and odd sentence parajumbles were TITA questions making it difficult to solve.  The contextual vocabulary and analogy questions were tough and could be solved by those with an exceptional vocabulary. Sentence correction questions were tricky, needing an in depth understanding of English grammar rules.

The cut-off for this section is expected to go around 7-8 marks.

Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation

This section had typical quant questions, similar to the ones found in most other b-school entrance exams. The questions were long and tedious, especially the DI questions that required students to perform complex calculations. The section was dominated by Arithmetic, with Geometry, Probability, Sequence & Series, Number Logic and Set Theory questions finding smaller representations.

The cut-off for this section is expected to go around 4-5 marks.

General Awareness

This sub-section was a test of GK with most of the questions revolving around business news from the last year and knowledge of major global corporations’ CEOs and logos.  The questions in this section were not straight forward and had mostly select all that applies and match the following kind of questions.

The cut-off of this section is expected to go around 1-2 marks.

MICAT 1 Expected Cutoffs 2025

MICAT 1 Analysis 2025: The C-D, VA and QA-DI sub-sections had 20 questions each while there were only 10 questions of GA. Run through all 4 sub-sections in the first hour, picking easy questions to clear cut-offs, then tackle moderate ones in the last 20 minutes. Use the “mark for review” button for quick returns. Overall, this paper was a mad dash from the end of Psychometric Test to the finish. It rewarded concentration, speed and the ability to select the right questions.

MICAT follows a unique evaluation protocol. First the candidate’s psychometric test is checked for qualification/disqualification. If disqualified the other parts of the paper are not evaluated. If a candidate qualifies the psychometric test, then the aptitude section’s responses are evaluated. If one clears the cut offs for each of the 4 sub-sections, then the descriptive section essays are checked and scored.

MICAT Admission Criteria 2025

After clearing MICAT, students are shortlisted and called for the GE-PI (Group Exercise and Personal Interview) process.
