IRMA is now a constituent school of “Tribhuvan” Sahkari University, India's first cooperative university, established by an Act of Parliament in April 2025. Eligibility for IRMA Admission Through CAT 2026

• Degree: Bachelor's in any discipline representing at least 15 years of education.
• Marks: 50% aggregate; relaxed to 45% for SC, ST, NC-OBC, General-EWS and PwD candidates.
• Final-year students: Eligible to apply, subject to completion.
• Entrance test: A valid CAT, XAT or CMAT score. NRI and sponsored applicants may use GMAT/GRE.
• No management quota — the institute states this plainly and repeatedly.

IRMA Selection Criteria 2026: The Three Stages

IRMA admission is through CAT 2026 and runs on three stages:

• Stage 1 — Shortlisting: Valid CAT/XAT/CMAT percentile combined with a profile score.
• Stage 2 — Written Ability Test: Conducted online in recent cycles (OWAT/TSUWAT).
• Stage 3 — Personal Interview: Weighted heavily toward genuine, specific interest in the rural and cooperative sector.

Merit call vs profile-cum-merit call

Two call types have run for years. A merit call goes to candidates clearing the higher percentile bar outright. A profile-cum-merit call goes to candidates at a lower percentile who meet profile criteria — relevant academic background, work experience, rural or development exposure, and diversity factors.

Where your academic stream actually matters

Not in the cut-off — in the profile score, and it works opposite to what most aspirants assume. IRMA explicitly encourages applicants from diverse educational streams, and academic diversity is a bonus factor at shortlisting alongside gender and regional diversity.

• Non-engineering backgrounds are advantaged. Agriculture, dairy technology, veterinary science, food technology, social work, development studies, public policy, economics and rural-adjacent sciences score well on academic diversity and sector fit.
• Engineers face no separate bar, but no bonus either. An engineering degree is simply neutral here.
• The interview does the real filtering. Vague enthusiasm for “social impact” reads exactly as vague.

IRMA CAT Cut-offs 2026 (Category-wise Shortlisting Percentiles)

General and EWS figures are stated by the institute. Reserved-category figures marked ~ are the relaxation bands consistently reported by admissions sources; exact category thresholds are released only to logged-in applicants, so treat them as indicative. Percentiles are overall, with balanced sectionals expected.

IRMA Placements: Five Years of Data

IRMA has reported 100% placement for its flagship batch since inception, and from the 2023–25 cohort the placement report has been externally audited against the Indian Placement Reporting Standards — materially more trustworthy than the self-reported numbers most Indian B-schools publish.

The 2025 report is IPRS Rev. 2.2 audited by Infomerics Analytics & Research. Earlier years are institute-reported. Note the 2024 dip — the line is not a straight climb, and the institute reports it rather than hiding it.

The Programme

A two-year, fully residential MBA in Rural Management with an intake of around 240. It runs the standard six-term MBA core — accounting, marketing, operations, finance, organisational behaviour, strategy — layered with agribusiness, cooperative management, development economics, natural resource management and public systems.

What distinguishes it is roughly five months of graded, compulsory fieldwork: the eight-week Village Fieldwork Segment living with a host family, the Organisational Traineeship Segment placed with cooperatives, banks, agribusinesses, NGOs and government missions, and a second-year Management Traineeship Segment producing a substantial written deliverable.

Career Avenues After IRMA

More than half of a typical batch takes corporate roles — the rural specialisation is a lens and a distribution skill, not a geographic sentence.

• BFSI & financial inclusion (~40%): Rural and agri lending, microfinance, credit analysis, insurance distribution. ICICI, HDFC, Axis, IDFC First, AU Small Finance, Samunnati, Kaleidofin.
• Agribusiness & FMCG (~27%): Rural sales and distribution, channel management, procurement. ITC, Dabur, Godrej Agrovet, Mother Dairy, Nestlé.
• Cooperatives & producer collectives: Dairy federations, FPOs, cooperative exports. GCMMF (Amul), NDDB, Banas Dairy.
• CSR & social business (~17%): Foundation programme management, impact measurement, livelihoods programming.
• Development sector & multilaterals: UNICEF, UNDP, state rural livelihood missions, BAIF, Kudumbashree. Lower pay, closer to the founding purpose.
• Consulting & social-impact advisory: Deloitte, KPMG, PwC, EY, Sattva, MicroSave. Often the highest offers in the batch.
• Agritech, policy & research: Supply-chain platforms, farmer-facing fintech, NITI Aayog, IWMI-Tata, and the institute's own FPM route.

Is IRMA Right for You?

IRMA is a narrow school and should be chosen narrowly. If you want a generalist MBA with the widest corporate optionality, a comparably ranked general B-school will serve you better. The percentile bar is lower than the top IIMs, but the fit bar is higher, and the panel is good at telling the difference between someone who wants rural management and someone who wants a seat.

If you want to work on financial inclusion, agri value chains, cooperatives, livelihoods, rural distribution or development policy, this is the deepest network in the country for it — audited placement data, a mean holding above ₹15 lakh, and the backing of an Act of Parliament.
